Deficiency
Symptoms
Deficiency causes reduced growth; shortened internodes; margins of olderleaves become chlorotic and burn; necrotic (dead) spots on older leaves;reduction of lateral breaks and tendency to wilt readily; poorly developed rootsystems; weak stalks.

Under potassium stress condition, yellowing of leaves starts from the tips ormargins of leaves extending towards the center of leaf base. The yellowing is
interveinal and irregular in the leaves of tomato and blueberry. These yellowparts become necrotic (dead spots) with leaf curling in tobacco; sugar maple;
sapota and sugarcane. There is a sharp difference between green, yellow andnecrotic parts.

In excess; causes N deficiency in plant and may affect the uptake of otherpositive ions such as Mg and Ca.

High N / low K favors vegetative growth; low N / high K promotes reproductivegrowth (flower, fruit); calcium excess impedes uptake of potassium.
